According to the World Bank's recent
estimates,
remittances to developing countries sent via official channels only were about
US$328 billion. Although the money sent by global migrant workers grew by 15
percent between 2007 and 2008, the rate of growth was lower than in previous
years due to global recession. Nearly one in 10 persons born in Mexico lived
in the United States in 2005 and one in seven was engaged in the US labor force.
