Immigration and National Security Post-Sept. 11: Updated Chronology

In the United States, security and immigration have become increasingly intertwined since the September 11 attacks. From Department of Justice decisions, to FBI interviews of over 5,000 Iraqis living in the US, this connection continues to develop.
The unprecedented and broad expanse of activity focused on immigrants and immigrant communities has raised concern in some quarters that keystone values and rights are eroding under the pressures of heightened security. Others contend that such actions are necessary given the new context and the continued war on terrorism. The following chronology provides a detailed rundown of executive, legislative, and judicial branch actions in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.
