In 2007, remittances sent only via official channels by global migrant workers were estimated to exceed US$318 billion, more than twice the amount recorded in 2001. Nearly one in 10 persons born in Mexico lived in the United States in 2005 and one in seven was engaged in the US labor force. What are the human capital, social, and economic implications of emigration on sending countries and communities?

Use our tools and maps to find out the answers to: What is the share of remittances in Moldova’s gross domestic product? What are the top five countries of destination for Chinese immigrants? Which cities worldwide have the largest immigrant population? Which Mexican states send the largest number of US-bound migrants? Which country has the largest number of Filipino overseas workers?
