Welcome to the Migration Information Source. The Source is a major new initiative of the Migration Policy Institute (MPI), an independent, non-partisan think tank dedicated to the study of the movement of people worldwide. As part of our mission, MPI is committed to making reliable, comparable, and relevant data on international migration and refugee flows more widely available to key audiences.
We know that public policy on this important issue will continue to suffer in the absence of quality information and accurate analysis. As the debates about international migration grow increasingly polarized, the need for solid, fundamental data has grown even more critical. It is in this context that The Source makes its debut.
This inaugural issue of The Source introduces you to some of the tools and topics that will continue to grow and develop on this site. The Global Data Center, in particular, is a unique tool that allows you to answer essential questions about international migration stocks and flows, and graph these trends along the way. This tool anchors the site and will be continually expanded with additional country data.
The Source offers other useful features: check out the
Country Profiles page for policies, trends, and numbers on select countries, and hit the Policy Beat section to stay fresh on the latest developments in the United States. Most importantly, sign up to receive our monthly news flash to stay on top of current events and additions to the site.
The Source is overseen by a distinguished advisory board, individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of international migration. We also rely on a team of foreign correspondents and institutional partnerships with organizations and governments to provide us with the data and articles available on this site.
A major grant from the JM Kaplan Fund has helped bring this vision to life as a project of the Migration Policy Institute. We appreciate their confidence in this bold initiative.
We look forward to hearing your comments and suggestions.
